Air: thoughts, truth and decisions

Suit of Swords Card Meanings

The suit of air: the mind, words, truth and conflict. Swords describe how you think, decide and communicate – and what worries you.

A sword cuts: it can clear a path or wound. The suit is linked to the element of air, and its cards deal with the mind in all its sharpness – clear decisions and honest words, but also arguments, anxiety, sleepless nights and the stories we tell ourselves. It has a reputation as the hardest suit, yet it is also the suit of clarity.

In a reading, Swords ask "what are you thinking, and is it true?" Upright, they bring insight, fairness and the courage to name things; reversed, they can show confusion, harsh self-talk, avoided conversations or, often, the first step out of a difficult mental state.
