Symbolism of the card

A man struggles toward a town, carrying ten heavy wands in his arms. They block his view, and his back is bent with the effort. He is nearly at his destination, but he has taken on far more than one person can comfortably carry.

Ten of Wands upright

Upright, the Ten of Wands describes carrying too much. Success may have brought more responsibilities, or you may have taken on everyone else’s problems. You can probably keep going, but at a cost. The card asks you to look at what you can put down, delegate or simplify, so that you can still see where you are going. Often the burden grew one wand at a time, from tasks you accepted out of duty or habit. List what you are carrying, and ask which of those wands are truly yours and which you could hand back.

Ten of Wands reversed

Reversed, the Ten of Wands can show you finally setting down some of the load – saying no, asking for help, letting go of duties that are not yours. It can also warn of collapse if nothing changes. Either way, lighten the load before it becomes impossible. Letting go of a responsibility can feel like failure at first, but it usually makes space for what matters most.
